The per-square-meter calculation is for flat coatings: countertops, paintings, floors and seamless finishes. Here is the quick table by thickness, how to calculate it, and why the porosity of the surface changes how much you need.

How to calculate resin per square meter

The formula is simple: width x length x thickness in millimeters, divided by 1,000, gives the liters of mix; multiplying by the density (~1.1) gives the weight. In practice the rule of 1.1-1.2 kg per m² for every millimeter of thickness is used, with density already included.

Floors and seamless coatings

Floors and seamless epoxy coatings are usually applied at 2-3 mm thickness, so count 2.2-3.3 kg/m². For a level, durable finish, they are applied in a double coat, which spreads the material better and hides imperfections.

Porosity changes the usage

A porous surface (unsealed wood, concrete, plaster) absorbs resin and drives up usage. The fix is to apply a thin seal coat first, let it cure and then apply the finish coat. That seal coat uses extra resin you should add to the calculation.
